Internship Opportunity

Below is a description of the current internship being advertised. I expect there will be two additional internship opportunities posted in the near future. The rate of pay for this opportunity is $15.35/hour and the ideal candidate would have skills and interests in accounting. To apply for the internship, students must submit an online application by June 13, 2013, and submit their information at the following link: PUC Internship.

I’m excited to offer this opportunity and I am hopeful that you can identify students who may benefit from this experience. For more information, please see our posting at Oregonjobs.org under Volunteer/Internships.

DESCRIPTION:
The Oregon Public Utility Commission (Commission) values the energy of teamwork, diversity, and innovation to provide the highest quality work product possible. The Commission ensures consumers receive utility service at fair and reasonable rates, while allowing regulated companies the opportunity to earn an adequate return on their investment. This internship opportunity is available in the Commission’s Utility Program whose research, analysis and technical support makes sure regulated companies provide safe, reliable and high-quality service at reasonable rates. Their efforts also promote effective competition in those industries.

Relay for Life!

Please come and support our Relay for Life team.

WHEN?
Relay for Life is May 17th at 6pm – May 18th at 8am. 100% of the money raised at Relay for Life goes towards cancer research and the support services that ACS provides. If you want to read more about ACS, visit www.cancer.org.
HOW TO JOIN THE TEAM
Visit http://main.acsevents.org/goto/bapakp and click on the orange button, on the right side, that says “Join our Team”. (As a bonus, if you still need BAP community service hours, you can get up to 10 hours by participating in Relay for Life). There is a $20 registration fee, but 100% of that $20 goes straight to ACS and cancer research. You must register to attend Relay for Life.
FUNDRAISING
Once you have joined the team, you can visit my personal fundraising page (http://main.acsevents.org/goto/deanielind) and use my story as an example to personalize your fundraising page.
There are four ways that you can help fundraise!
1. Send a support letter to friends and family. I have attached the support letter that I sent to my friends and family explaining what I am doing, why I am walking, and how they can help me reach my fundraising goal – you can use my letter as an example.

2. Ask people to donate a luminaria bag. As night falls during Relay for Life, the walkways are decorated with personalized bags lit by a candle in memory of those who are at different stages in their fight. This is a beautiful way to see how many lives have been touched by cancer. Ask people: How have you been touched by cancer? Has someone close to you been taken by cancer? (I will have an example of a luminaria bag at the next BAP meeting)

3. Advertise on facebook using your facebook states and the link to our fundraising page (http://main.acsevents.org/goto/bapakp).
4. On Monday, April 29th, Papa’s Pizza Parlor here in Corvallis is donating 50% of the evening’s sales to Relay for Life. All you have to do is bring the flyer (attached) and write in “BAP & AKP” to the “Team” field. Tell your friends!! You can eat pizza AND help in the fight against cancer!!!
I will continue to pass around the hour sign in sheet at BAP meetings. Please sign up for an hour or two (or more if you’d like) so we can make sure to have at least one representative from our team walking at all times.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! Email (lindel@onid.orst.edu) or text/call (206-498-5546) me. Also, let me know if you have any other fundraising ideas!!

Oregon State takes 3rd at Beta Alpha Psi regionals!

Our officers took third place out of seven schools that competed in the Best Practices competition at BAP regionals in Spokane! They discussed commitment and how important it is moving forward in your career. As a retired officer on the heels of my first busy season in public accounting, commitment is very important. I’m glad that those that voted thought so as well! Congratulations officers, you earned it.

CPA Study Options

Becker CPA Review
The first flyer is an online schedule for OSU graduates. Students would view multiple lectures each week to stay on track.
The second flyer is announcing something totally unique for OSU. We’ll be hosting “study hall” sessions in Portland (where you said most students land!) on Saturday mornings during the summer for the online class. Going through so much material in such a short time students are bound to have questions. We’ll have study sessions at DeVry University in Beaverton with live instructors helping students get any concepts they might have struggled with.

Intern Opportunity- Pacific Northwest Laboratory Richland, WA

PNNL is a multi-program national lab, operated by Battelle for the Department of Energy. BSD provides finance, accounting, and project support to the lab’s research operations. Each year, BSD hires four to six interns to take part in our summer internship program. We are primarily interested in students who are in their junior, or senior year of college, or who have recently graduated and are majoring in either Finance or Accounting, or who are currently enrolled in an MBA program. Our goal is to find candidates who are well qualified, and who have stated desire to be considered for full-time employment upon graduation if a position is available. Once hired, interns take part in two or more rotational assignments, and are exposed to a variety of PNNL’s Finance and Accounting functions. This is an excellent opportunity for them to learn about our organization, and an opportunity for us to evaluate their potential as a future employee.

The attachment to this email includes information about the Internship, how to apply, Battelle, and PNNL. Thank you in advance for your time and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
